cabbage butterfly caterpillars

A_bowl_kale.JPG

I found the first one the day before yesterday and then I wrapped all the kale plants to avoid more eggs to be laid.

But today I found more cabbage butterfly caterpillars! And eggs. 😤 Damn Pieris rapae

Newborn caterpillars, they turn more green as they grow.

This is what the eggs look like.

But now I need to inspect the plants every now and then to check that there’s not a caterpillar party under the net.

It can be hard to find the eggs and the caterpillars in kale that has frilled leafs, so I removed quite many of the leafs to make it easier to check. I clean the leafs thoroughly, dry, vacuum pack and store in the freezer. It doesn’t take a lot of space and the kale works well to freeze.
